Contra Costa County Custody and Records Contacts
Choose the office that owns the information you need. Headquarters, the records counter, the jail, and the court have different roles, so do not treat their addresses or phone lines as interchangeable.

Use these official routes for the most common requests:
- For current county custody, start with the Sheriff’s In-Custody Locator or call the MDF inmate information line at (925) 646-4493.
- For a person still in custody, request custody records from Custody Administrative Services at csbrecords@so.cccounty.us.
- For an out-of-custody booking record or a specific booking-photo request, contact the Sheriff Records & ID Unit.
- For an arresting city’s police report, contact that police department. The Sheriff record and city incident report are separate records.
- For a warrant check, filed charges, a case docket, or the final disposition, use Contra Costa Superior Court criminal records or call (925) 608-1000.
- For a sentenced California state prisoner, use the official CDCR CIRIS search. It does not cover routine county jail bookings.
- For federal or immigration custody, use the official Federal Bureau of Prisons locator or ICE Online Detainee Locator.
The Contra Costa County booking guide explains which identifiers to gather before a records request. A booking entry or charge is an allegation, not a conviction, and Superior Court is the source for the later case outcome.
